CSRxP: House Rx Package Adds to Unprecedented Momentum to Hold Big Pharma Accountable

Speaker’s Drug Pricing Plan Includes Measures That Have Won Support from Both Sides of the Aisle

Washington, D.C. – The Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing (CSRxP) released a statement today on the release of details of a drug pricing plan circulated by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

“The plan unveiled by leaders in the House reflects several key reforms that have won bipartisan support, including measures to reform the Medicare Part D program by giving Big Pharma more skin in the game, capping out-of-pocket costs and keeping price hikes below the rate of inflation,” said CSRxP executive director Lauren Aronson. “As the details of this plan are discussed and weighed, we encourage policymakers on both sides to maintain their commitment to bipartisan action to hold Big Pharma accountable and lower drug prices.”

“CSRxP looks forward to reviewing the full details of the proposal and continuing to work with lawmakers to advance market-based solutions to crack down on Big Pharma’s egregious practices and lower prescription drug prices,” Aronson continued. “Policymakers simply must act to hold brand name drug makers accountable who are solely responsible for setting and increasing list prices.”

“The introduction of this plan builds on unprecedented momentum to hold Big Pharma accountable as leaders in both parties and in both chambers put forward and advance solutions to crack down on the industry’s anti-competitive tactics and price-gouging,” Aronson added. “We urge lawmakers to continue working in a collaborative, bipartisan fashion to capitalize on this opportunity to hold Big Pharma accountable and deliver concrete relief for American patients.”
