[Inside Health Policy] Spurred By Sovaldi’s Price, Drug Makers & Plans Consider Mortgaging Pricey Drugs

Spurred by the prospect of Sovaldi’s high cost, some policy wonks are talking about letting plans and state Medicaid agencies spread the cost of expensive drugs out over several years, much like a mortgage. The idea is in the early stages of discussion, and no trade group, politician or agency is proposing it, but it is quickly becoming a hot topic of conversation, and health care plans are using it to insist that drug makers take on part of the risk of new products.
