[POLITICO Pro] 80-group campaign targeting hepatitis drug cost

“More than 80 organizations are launching the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing to bring the pharmaceutical company Gilead to the table to negotiate a lower price, hoping that public pressure will prevail where private entreaties have not. John Rother, CEO of the National Coalition on Health Care, said Gilead’s pricing amounts to ‘an abuse of market power’ that could sap the resources to pay for innovative drugs in the future. Sovaldi, which the FDA only approved in December, set a record $2.3 billion in sales in just the first three months of this year. ‘We are at risk of completely unbalancing the system for one company,’ Rother said Wednesday.”
