CMS Introduces Medicare Drug Spending Dashboard

This afternoon, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced its Medicare Drug Spending Dashboard as part of its effort to provide additional information, increase transparency, and address the affordability of prescription drugs. Here’s a statement from John Rother, executive director of the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing, regarding this new tool.
“Providing insights and information into Medicare spending is crucial to ensuring patients have access to affordable medications. This afternoon, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services took an important step in the drug pricing conversation by introducing a tool that will increase transparency. To develop realistic market-based solutions to unsustainable drug prices requires that everyone focus on value and transparency in drug pricing, and this latest effort from CMS is a positive step.”
